Our DIFFERENT Take on Church Apps

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 5/12/20 10:30 AM

Author Note: (September, 2023)  Since this was originally written  in May, 2020 we continued to monitor how churches and people actually use both Texting and Apps.

We became convinced that it really isn't one or the other.  It's about providing options for people to use based on their preferences.

In August, 2023 we released our Member App (click here) after much research and deliberation.  It is state of the art and pairs very nicely with Text-to-Church.  The combined power of both of these tools to serve church members has became an important Churchteams distinctive.

Apps are an important part of product offerings for some Church Management  Systems. They are the primary delivery system for other church related online services like payment processing, content delivery, and communication.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 5/5/20 11:06 AM
Our development team has been busy the past few months, before and during the Covid 19 shutdown.  I've already blogged on 4 upgrades.
  1. Check Scanning & Image Archive.
  2. Automated Check-in Printer Start Schedule.
  3. Office number for Text-to-Church.
  4. Email lists upgrade.  Last week's blog.
But, in addition there have been a number of other nice additions.  You may have already noticed some of them.  I'm featuring the Org Chart and Growthfinder language update in the title of this post.  But, there is more.  Here is a quick overview. Click or scroll to read more.  Look them up in your account to help you remember and use them.

New!  Email Lists upgrade.  How to use lists well.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 4/28/20 10:30 AM

Think about it.  Whenever you sign up for anything online, you are REQUIRED to provide an email address.  Often it becomes your username.  Email is as important to your Internet identity as your address is to your geographic identity.

And email is an important part of church communication. The challenge is to effectively target the people with whom you want to communicate.  Our report filters allow you to select people based on group involvement (or not), any member attribute and even giving habits.

An introduction to email and email marketing.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 4/21/20 10:30 AM

These weeks of churches not being able to physically meet due to Covid 19 are requiring us to review and upgrade our thoughts about communication.  It seems like a perfect time to start a series I've been thinking about on email and email marketing.

New!  Use the Office Number for Text-to-Church

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 4/14/20 2:00 PM
Talk about convenient.  Just text the word GIVE to the church office number to make or set up a donation.  HELP provides a short tutorial. EVENTS sends a list of keywords to choose from to give or join anything.

CHECK enhances security and captures attendance - even if watching the service online.  ME goes to my personal page in the database.  Add Links with your keywords to go anywhere on the Internet.

The great thing about this upgrade is that the number is already in the contacts for many of the people who attend your church.  They call it to talk to staff.  But now they can text it to do everything else.

Tracking Multiplication.  4 Generations

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 4/7/20 10:33 AM

I started this series more than a month ago but got sidestracked on topics related to the Covid 19 crisis.  The pandemic has only ramped up.  But, for a moment, let's refocus on how we help a church measure how well they are multiplying disciples.

Jesus didn't mentor his disciples just to make them better men.  His goal was for them to mentor other people who would do the same thing.  Paul was super clear on this multiplication model of mentoring in 2 Timothy 2:2.

We who are captivated by the privilege and challenge of this calling are part of a growing movement of churches owning the multiplication vision.  Our experience has shown us that consistency and conversations are two powerfully helpful measures of multiplication.

Not connecting on Sundays?  This NEW Text-to-Checkin upgrade can help!

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 3/31/20 3:00 PM

All of us miss being together on Sundays but we're finding new paths to stay connected.  Like the creative ways many of you are using Text-to-Church to help.

One recent idea was to use All Check to have people text to let us know they were watching the live-stream or video.  It also gives them an opportunity to respond, give and stay informed.  Like a church bulletin, but on steroids.

But there was a problem.  The system required starting up a label printer in order to use Check-in.  So, we changed development priorities last week and are excited to release an upgrade to Check-in that allows you to create an automatic check-in start up schedule without having to start a label printer.

Five software usage ideas this past week for Covid 19 response.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 3/22/20 10:30 AM

I was so encouraged by this email from Kelly, a church admin assistant, in response to How we help the church be the church.

"Thanks for all of your help during this time. We have had two families already connect using the set-up in Churchteams. One from our church and the other is un-churched. They happen to live right across the street from one another and hooked up after seeing the link on FB. Thank you for all of your help in getting our church ready for serving our community during these difficult times."

How to use software when you can't use your building.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 3/17/20 10:45 AM

Covid 19 has made social distancing a new part of our everyday vocabulary and it's impacting our church.   Last Sunday our pastor preached to a camera in an empty auditorium.  It looks like there will be a lot more of that.

He reminds us regularly that the building isn't the church, we are.  The building is just the place the church meets.  Now that we are social distancing and cannot meet in the building, how's the church supposed to meet?  Like everything else, we wonder, what will technology do?  If online applications were different parts of a church facility, what function would each application provide?  It's a good question.  Here's my take:

Coronavirus Sunday - How we help churches be the Church.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 3/15/20 10:00 AM

All across the country today, churches are empty because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

I've loved reading  notes from pastors encouraging their people to trust God and then love and care for one another.

This is a time for the church to shine!  And we built Churchteams to be the light on the hill for decentralized ministry.  Our team started talking about that and we came up with some ways beyond the Sunday experience that Churchteams can help your church be the Church (not a cap typo) during this crisis.

Coronavirus. Two ways we can help your church.

Posted by Boyd Pelley on 3/12/20 12:41 PM

Last night the President  banned at-risk travel and made available loans to help businesses through the Cornovirus Pandemic.  The NBA season is over.  And the NCAA tournament won't have spectators.  What!  March madness without the crowd?
